Marathon or bust -- goddamn it!

Post by markqlicker »

Got a couple medicare sign up offers last week. Piss on them and the damn burial insurance deals.

Time to step it up (literally) and get back into distance running.

Bicycle is fun and I ride the Trek each day, but fun doesn't cut it any longer. Ten mile runs of 15 years ago are now three mile jogs a couple times a week.

Last entered a marathon in 1981. Trained over 50 miles a week during the Detroit Summer and woke up with a slight cold the day of. Bugged out at 13 miles as the energy dropped to zero at the halfway point. Other entry was 1980. Finished the 26.2 miles after hitting the wall at 18 (they ain't kidding.) time was hours less than world class, but I was ill early that year and way undertrained.

Weather here will be near perfect until early June and the summers work as well at sunrise and after dark.

Knees are in good shape and the ticker works fine. I'll tweak the diet a bit more towards the raw side.

Probably have to travel to find a race that covid hasn't closed down, but that is ok.

Burma Shave!
So long, Paul.

Gosh, me too!

Thanks for the reminder.
"Racist" is a toolword. You must know that.
Any objective examination of the effect of "them" has to lead you to the behavior and ideology that is now termed, "racist."

Refute if you can.

New seat for the bike. Nice padded one was ripped. Bike shop was nearly out of seats.

Fella found one with virtually no padding.

They like grass better than concrete.

Gonna stick with the park for a while.

26 miles is tough enough without fighting the heat. Often one or two people die in a large race.

Bust I guess. Recovery too long after the 8-10 mile runs.

Reefer is legal so I can start a new hobby.

What you need is proper motivation to be able to run.

Go to Portland and wander the downtown streets at night. You might be more motivated to run.

Not a bad idea. I used to run laps around Belle Isle in Detroit.

I used to run from Walter Reed Army Medical Center (don't know what it is called now)
to Roosevelt Island (not the NY one) and then back on Saturdays
