Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Move

Post by Comrade Renski »

So we beez movinz...

1) This morning I push the garage door button, the garage goes up a foot and stops. I reset. I get it off track and re-engage. I trip da breaker. I help it move up where it gets stuck. There's nothing in its way. Mrs. CR opened it last night and saw the nightmare that was in there and closed it. I tried to open it in the morning, no joy. I take it off the tracks, lift the mudderfudder up, ugh, and put my ladder underneath so we can continue to move.

2) After a whole day of moving, rebuilding furniture, painting the last rooms,...I go to Safeway to get smoe food and beverages to salvage this Memorial Day. I get home. Garage door is still up only a _oot. _uddernutter! I bring in the groceries and find a place to park. I find a place, I put my Porsche in reverse and 'pop'. That's never good. It doesn't go into gear. No matter which gear I try it doesn't engage. Now I have to parallel park with my car in neutral. With the door is open, I'm moving the steering wheel to parallel park. Okay, that was a _irst.

At this point I'd rather be at step 25 of 56 erecting a playset for my keikis.

A lot of trouble to tell us you have a Porsche.
"Racist" is a toolword. You must know that.
Any objective examination of the effect of "them" has to lead you to the behavior and ideology that is now termed, "racist."

Refute if you can.

Update: Lol, like youse care. Anywho, garage door spring had sprung. Elmo. We've been in this house for 7 years plus, all it had to do was literally last for 6 more days. So, tomorrow between 2-4pm, a garage door company will come out and replace the spring, $250-$300. Unfortunately, it's right in the middle of me getting a large moving van at 9am, signing closing docs at 10am, work around the garage door being propped up by a 6' ladder until 2pm. The good news is that it can be fixed that fast. I was waiting for the '2-4 weeks' answer.

Porsche update: Not gonna do anything over the next _ew days, got other _ish to _ry. However, I found on YT that it can be one of two things, one being under the shifter knob - a ball-joint popped out or two, I'll have to lift the car to see if one of the cables popped out of its u-joint. Both fixes seem to be easy and fast. I'll try one first, take the boot off - it'll be immediately self-evident if I need to go to step 2.

Good thing about the whiners forum is that nobody has to care.

New homeowner would have been frustrated with having to fix the door mechanism after shelling out 7 figures for their dream home. A blessing of sorts that you have spared them the anguish.

No way you'll get out for 250-300
I wouldn't do one for 25000

It's just the spring that snapped. I don't need a whole new door.

Update: Out of the house, left the keys, waiting to get funded and have play money.

Car is still near old address. I gotta get it towed to our new hula hut, but first I gotta empty a bajillion boxes that are stacked in the garage. I’m having new cabinets installed in the garage; that should suck up a few box-loads of Elmo later today.

Have a built in vacuum system installed in the garage.
