Sort of works should be considered as well.

About 5 years ago I picked up a mint looking IBM Selectric for about $30. Couple keys stick. Checked YT and got instructions on how to clean and relube each key. Took the guy on the video that knew what he was doing a couple of hours. Machine is worth about $250-$300 once back in tip top shape.

Could sell it as is on Etsy.

They seem to have less discerning buyers.

pretty much if it doesn't work it gets fixed. Microwave broke, got a new part, fixed it. Otherwise, it gets tossed. Some stuff is unfixable these days so that is what a big trash bin is good for.

I do have a non working ceiling fan, likely original to the house in AZ. On a vaulted ceiling, so I have a guy coming in to fix it when I am down there next month. I ain't going up ladders if I can help it.

Tried to fix the Bissell carpet cleaner a couple times. Suction quit after a handful of cleans.

Makes a good clothes rack.

And the Epson scanner died two years ago. Probably a dozen years old.

Not selling much so don't need a new one.

Had a gable vent fan but needed to remember to shut it off during wildfires.

I had that problem. The repair guy had to clean out a clog and then it worked fine. The clog wasn't in the hose. It was somewhere inside the machine.

Being that I live in Appalachia anything that doesn't work gets thrown out in the yard. It will take me another 50 years to catch up to the neighbors.

jk

The only item I have that doesn't work is a trash compactor. Still use it as our kitchen trash can. The repair guy wanted $600 to replace the motor and I laughed. Someday I may replace it myself at a third the cost but I've become kinda lazy lately.

After the typewriter, I'll take another look at the Bissell.

I picked "Computer" but mostly because I made them not work until I can properly e-waste them.

I do have one dead Mac that I may or may not get fixed someday.

Computer is about to be added to the list.

Tried to log in on my Google account. Didn't take the password and noted that the pw was changed 40 days ago.

Not by me.

Is it up on cinder blocks? If so, just tell your HOA that it's a yard ornament. whistle:

Each year in the spring the nearby townsfolk have an event officially known as spring cleanup, but my friends have been affectionately calling it Bums Christmas for just as many years.

It's like a big trade event in a way. I'll bring things into town that I no longer want. This year for instance, it was pieces of fencing and old chicken waterers, some cutoff pieces of pole barn metal etc. So it was basically gone to metal scrappers, almost as soon as i set it down.

But on the flip side, i pick up things that I see that might be fixable. This year I got a nearly new Cub Cadet push mower that somebody hit something with, but the shaft was fine. Mower is listed at 650 dollars by cub. I know i will never sell near that, but it's a 20 dollar shaft shroud that i need to order to fix and that's it.
And i also picked up a like new Thomasville leather recliner. Retail pricing on it, 1200 bucks. The only thing i can figure is somebody must have passed in it, because it works and looks new.
